General Use of Technology in Agriculture

Q. Define technology generally uses in agriculture sector of Bangladesh?

Using technology can turn the agricultural production system into a more dynamic and commercially profitable sector. Generally the term “Technology” in agriculture means the processes or techniques by which human beings use tools and machines to increase their crop production. Using technology in agriculture sector ensures the scientific and technological developments in crop production, processing, preservation and crop marketing as well. Developing new modern technologies ensure running the cycle of success in production. There are sign of using modern technology from many years back in our country but, it is not modernized properly with time. In agricultural sector old traditional technologies are still found as means of production. Now some modern technologies are using in agriculture sector of Bangladesh regularly on a large scale. Especially for a farm mechanization systems of the agricultural sector of Bangladesh, some technologies are using regularly. Such are:

• Land preparation (Bullock draw plough, power tiller, Four wheel tractor)
• Sowing, planting & transplanting (Land broadcasting method, Manually operated seed- fertilizer district, Planter)
• Intercultural operation (line sowing)
• Spraying (Chemical Knapsack sprayer)
• Threshing / shelling (Land beating & bullock trading, Pedal operating thresher, power operated thresher, power seller)
• Win owner (Land, pedal & power operated win owner)
• Drying (Sun drying, Mechanical dryer)
• Storage (Traditional bamboo structure, Modern Cold storage)
• Milling (Engle berg milling, husking mill)

And also Power Pumps and irrigation equipments became available for all areas of Bangladesh.

Therefore, these technologies can be categorizes as four most recognizable technologies are:

• Biological technology such as improved verities of seeds& breeds.
• Chemical technology such as fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides.
• Land augmenting technology.
• Manufacturing technology.

These are the technologies generally uses in agriculture sector of Bangladesh. But there are many areas of Bangladesh, where want of resource and fund, people are still using traditional indigenous technologies only for production.
